It Didn't Happen One Night - S5-E2

Question: How did Steve and Laura get a hotel room? Neither of them are eighteen years old yet. Most hotels require the room to be paid for by someone who is eighteen, if not twenty-one.

Answer: Most reputable hotels/motels would not rent a room to minors. This was a lower-end motel, which may have had lax standards and requirements, engaged in unsavory business practices, and was otherwise unconcerned about who their customers were or what they did as long as they paid their bill, probably in advance.

Question: There may not be a definite answer to this. If the Baroness and her daughters are noble, why did she marry Danielle's father - a wealthier common person, but still not a noble? Does she not have a Baroness title, and any land and assets from her daughters' father? Why not seek a marriage to another noble?

Answer: You're correct that there is no definite answer. Many nobles have lofty titles without necessarily possessing wealth. The Baroness may have been married to a wealthy nobleman, but as she did not have any sons, her first husband's property and/or title would have been inherited by his closest male relative (females did not inherit) possibly leaving her with little or nothing. Her first husband may have been living beyond his means, leaving little to be inherited (a common occurrence among the earlier nobility). The Baroness' lavish lifestyle eventually bankrupted Danielle's father. Marrying another wealthy nobleman would be a difficult prospect as the Baroness was older and possibly no longer capable of bearing children, in addition to having no money, making her an undesirable match to many. She married the wealthiest person (Danielle's father) she could.

Question: Why was Dr. Crews such a two-faced, corrupt, dishonest and manipulative person? He never intended to help nor cure Tina but wanted to exploit her abilities for sake of his own career, to the point of deliberately aggravating her. He was a psychiatrist so why was he so evil?

Answer: He's just... not a good guy. I don't think it's any deeper than that - he thought he could exploit her for personal gain. Some people are just slimy and like to take advantage of others for their own purposes.

Question: Does the song The Darkest Side of the Night have anything to do with the movie?

Rob245

Answer: It's hard to find information about the song online. From what I can gather, I believe the song was written for the film, and a few of the lyrics do seem to have imagery that's reminiscent of the film... but I don't think the song is "about" the film itself.

To Serve Man - S3-E24

Question: Mankind is trying to figure out what the book says. Why didn't they just ask the aliens "directly" as to what the book says?

Answer: It's doubtful the aliens would have been truthful considering they lied to entice humans to their world as a food source. The story humans were given all sounded so wonderful, that they believed what they wanted to believe.

Answer: Wire Fox Terrier.

Question: How come The Joker's not affected when he jumps into the vat with Quinn?

Rob245

Answer: Because he's already been into the liquid, it's how he became the Joker. He wanted Harley to be just like him.

Question: When they notice there's a gap in the freeway they keep to that route. However, there were other routes available. Why not take them?

Answer: If they had, there might have been the possibility that to get to these routes they would have to go down a different road and depending on which route they take they might have to slow down to make the turn which would likely cause the bus to drop below 50 mph. Better to just keep going straight and keep the bus going. There's also the possibility that had they taken a different route, they would have to deal with a lot of traffic especially if there was traffic stopped at a red light. By using the highway, there'd be no traffic lights and less traffic to deal with.

Question: If Laura was unconscious from blood poisoning, how did they introduce penicillin?

Answer: When they went to the abandoned ship, outside the library, to retrieved penicillin from the infirmary, they must have also gotten a medical kit with supplies.

Question: If he can't afford more than crappy coffee and oatmeal, then how does he afford all the alcohol and fancy restaurants he goes to?

Answer: I think the breakfast is free, however the lower class doesn't get a fancy meal for free but a more basic type. The restaurants and bar on the other hand cost money.

lionhead

Answer: Perhaps customers at the bar and restaurant are allowed to run a tab that doesn't have to be settled until they are leaving the Starship Avalon and about to go to Homestead II. (This could be risky given the different resources of the passengers.) Or maybe the bar and restaurant are included in the fee for some passengers and staff would typically be at the door to allow admission to these passengers; Jim - awake and roaming - may be assumed to be eligible to use the bar/restaurant when, under normal circumstances, he would not be permitted to enter.

KeyZOid

Answer: I wondered about this, too. His lower-class passage limits his breakfast choice. However, it seems that any passenger should be able to upgrade their individual meals at anytime and order what they want, as he does in the multiple on-board restaurants. It may be that breakfast, for whatever reason, is exempt from that option.

raywest

Yeah but they simply push a button for the breakfast and actually order food from the restaurants. You might think he would just go ahead and go to one of the restaurants to get his breakfast, but maybe they aren't open yet at that time. The ship seems to be more of a cross between a luxurious cruise and boot-camp. The breakfast is perhaps standard ship protocol.

lionhead

I agree the paid for bar and restaurant don't probably open until 'Evening time' on the ship (You don't want your workers getting drunk all day, Jim is work group). The ship has a day and night clock system as heard by the announcer. I suppose Jim could change his wake up and sleep time to get a decent breakfast in the Chinese, but then his dinner would be basic and he wouldn't be able to have a drink before bed. What would you choose? Basic breakfast, good evening meal with drinks or good breakfast, basic evening meal and no drinks.

Question: Who played the saleswoman Clark talked to at the mall in the beginning?

Answer: Nicolette Scorsese (no relation to director Martin Scorsese). She's credited as "Mary" in the film.

Question: When Jack went searching for the girl in the top apartment of the building he could hardly see because of the fog. As soon as the fire from beneath bursts through the floor the thick smoke has disappeared. Is this normal for building fires?

Answer: I'm not a fire fighter so I do not have a answer based on experience but I assume that when Jack was disoriented it's because there was no light in the building, then when the fire broke through it produced enough light to break through the smoke and make seeing easier for him to escape.

It actually doesn't break through the floor...it's a flashover where everything including the gases in the smoke reach their ignition temperature simultaneously and the room lights off...it's a very serious and dangerous situation to be in as a firefighter...I was in one, luckily we were only 10 feet inside the door.

Question: What was Ron's joke when he said "Next time I see Crookshanks I'll let him know"? I knew he was making some sort of joke or being sarcastic. Can someone please explain it to me?

THE GAMER NEXT DOOR

Answer: Hermione wanted Ron to apologize. Ron jokes he will, but to the cat instead of her.

lionhead

I don't understand why Ron would joke about that. He owed Hermione an apology. And why didn't he just say sorry?

They are just kids. He just doesn't feel like he should apologize to her for accusing her cat of killing his rat. There have probably been incidents of Crookshanks chasing Scabbers, it is a cat after all.

Answer: Ash can understand Pikachu from his gestures and movements and from his imitations as well. He pretty much can understand because he has had Pikachu the longest and has a really strong bond with Pikachu.

Answer: He simply just snapped. He definitely looked angry before Joey even started talking to him, and said how he hated being there...and he already had an axe in his hands...he just lost it, and took out his anger and frustration on Joey.

Answer: My theory is Vic was a diabetic and was acting in self-defense, since Joey just tried to kill him with a candy bar.

Your theory is obviously a joke.

Answer: Since Elsa created Marshmallow, it's very likely since after creating him, he threw Anna and Kristoff out of the ice castle.

Elsa is extremely emotional at this point. While she can make sentient things with her powers, it doesn't seem like she is in direct control of them. Most likely she gave Marshmallow the idea to keep everyone away from her castle and that's it. Elsa would never purposely hurt Anna, therefore Marshmallow is acting on his own, albeit following the last orders Elsa gave. So yes, he obeys her but is not under her direct control.

Question: Why, in the 3 hour TV version of the movie, does Luthor waste time on that elaborate trap if he already knows, from reading Lois' interview, that bullets, fire, and cold won't stop Superman?

Rob245

Answer: He wanted to see for himself if the stories were true. Some reporters tend to exaggerate the facts and if he had any other weaknesses. He couldn't be sure the kryptonite would work.

While I don't exactly disagree that Lex wanted to see for himself how invincible Superman is, I don't think that's the main reason why he did it. The bullets and fire were simply a charade to make it look like this was his security system. Keep in mind, he wanted Superman to enter his lair because the real trap was the Kryptonite that he had in the lead box.

Question: What caused Finn and Alexis to become technophiles?

Answer: I'll provide a "response." This seemingly simple/ straightforward question has a straightforward answer as well as a complicated one. The simple answer is it is impossible for anyone to know with certainty what "caused" them to be or become anything. There are theoretical perspectives that may offer different possibilities. Scientifically, there can be factors that are associated/ correlated with being a technophile, but there can also be unknown factor (s) that contribute. The complicated answer would break down your question and not take it for granted: What do you mean by "technophile"? What criteria are used to define someone as a technophile? Is "enthusiasm" measurable? Do Finn or Alexis meet the criteria for a technophile? Is using a technology that is readily available because of the historical time in which one lives the same as being enthusiastic over new technology? Is an addiction or obsession the same as enthusiasm? What evidence do you have that they are technophiles, etc?

KeyZOid

Both Wikipedia and Home Alone Wiki state that Finn and Alexis are technophiles.

Does either provide a definition of "technophile" or provide criteria or evidence?

KeyZOid

Finn is obsessed with video games and Alexis is obsessed with listening to music via headphones.

Question: What happened to Miles? He stops his motorcycle to look back at the flood and - nothing else.

Answer: That has been a question of debate for years. Some say he died, others say he lived. The only real answer I can give is, there were talks of making a sequel. In it, Lou and Maria were living in San Francisco, while Miles and his partner were headlining his motorcycle act in Las Vegas, when another, stronger earthquake hits.
