Friends

Answer: Eric Carmen - All by Myself.

Answer: They had already dated and broken up. When they began their online relationship, they were unaware who the other person was.

raywest

Answer: It's With or Without You by U2.

Chosen answer: Mr Kotter was the teacher on a popular 70s sitcom "Welcome Back Kotter". He was known for his afro.

Ral0618

Chosen answer: They felt that enough time had passed that Ross should be able to put the past behind him, and he and Carol were friends and they shared a child together. Ross had also moved on from that relationship, and was now in love with Rachel, and had in fact, always been in love with her.

The One With Barry & Mindy's Wedding - S2-E24

Question: In the episode where Richard and Monica break up at Barry and Mindy's wedding, we see that Chandler is chatting on the computer with a girl (that ends up being Janice). When Joey comes in and Phoebe tells him that they are wondering whether or not the girl Chandler is talking with is actually a girl. Joey says, "Ask her how long she is going to live. Girls live longer" and Chandler says, "Why don't you fall down more?" What does he mean?

Answer: Joey has just made an incredibly stupid remark (how would she know how long she's going to live?), so he wonders how Joey is even smart enough to walk. It's just a joke.

Shay

Answer: Season 2, Episode 7 "The One Where Ross Finds Out". Rachel gets drunk on a date and calls Ross - she leaves a message on his answering machine telling him she's "over him". Ross checks his messages in Rachel's apartment, while on his way to get a cat with Julie. He says "you're over me? When were you...under me?" and asks how she found out. Rachel tells him that Chandler told her, to which Ross replies, "when did he when did he, when did he...?"

Answer: Jack and Chrissy are two of the three main characters from "Three's Company." They, along with their roommate Janet, always got into weird situations, mostly involving misunderstandings about what was going on. They always came up with completely off-the-wall ways to get out of the situation.

The One Where Ross Finds Out - S2-E7

Question: I was just wondering if anyone could name the song which plays when Ross bursts into Central Perk and kisses Rachel for the first time. It's a big 80's guitar power song and I really recognise the riff but can't think of the band or song.

Answer: The producers wanted to use U2's "With or Without You" as the background clip for Ross and Rachel's kiss; however, there wasn't enough time for them to arrange for the necessary rights. Instead of the song, a studio clip similar to the band's playing style was used.

The One Where Joey Moves Out - S2-E16

Question: When Jack and Judy are talking in the bathroom, Jack says something like "It's like a scene from 'Cocoon'." I haven't seen 'Cocoon', so can someone tell me what he's talking about?

Answer: In the movie Cocoon, some retired elderly people swim in a pool with some alien cocoons in them. The energy produced from these cocoons gives them a new lease of life, giving them more energy like when they were younger. Jack's reference to the movie in relation to Richard is that he is acting the same since he has started seeing his "twinky" (Monica).

Answer: I think it's because he was so disturbed to find out his Dad was having an affair. People do strange things when they get bad news... eat lots of ice cream, retail therapy etc. For Joey, being of Italian descent, his reaction was to make lots of pasta sauce.

Dr Muppet

He does it when he has to sleep with someone for a part?

Answer: If you're playing team sports and the weather is favourable then one easy way to know who's in which team is to have one team keep their shirts on and the others not. Hence shirts and skins, clearly if girls were playing there was scope for fun.

tw_stuart

Answer: Monica just said "You guys haven't gotten your presents yet? Tomorrow's Christmas Eve, what are you gonna do?" It's a reference to the sappy dialog in all those Rankin/Bass claymation Christmas specials. Google "claymation" if you're after a description of the technical side.

Myridon

Answer: It sounds kind of like a fantasy book, the hobbit is just about the most famous fantasy book ever written.

Answer: I agree with the other answers. Another possibility is, Rachel was close friends with both Monica and Mindy in high school. Mindy was likely friends with Monica, and therefore invited her to the wedding along with Rachel, knowing they were roommates. Richard has known the Geller and Green families for years and may also know Mindy's parents and was invited separately. He could be Monica's +1, or she his, but even if both were invited separately, they are still attending as a couple. Monica wasn't invited to Rachel and Barry's wedding because the girls had lost touch after high school and Monica moved to NYC.

raywest

Answer: Excellent question, and it's never occurred to me. My best guess would be that Barry/Mindy are aware they're asking a big favour of Rachel and realise it would be an awkward situation for her, so let her invite a friend (Monica) for moral support so there'd be a friendly face there for her.

Jon Sandys

Answer: It's never explained, and the writers probably didn't gave it serious thought, just using their presence at the wedding as a plot device. But since, as you say, Monica was not invited to Rachel's wedding, the most logical explanation is that Richard is the invitee, and Monica is his +1. Richard and Barry are both doctors and so could know one another, or perhaps Richard is friends with Barry's, or Mindy's, parents. If the latter, this would not be unbelievable, as Mindy's parents would likely be in the same circle as the Gellers, with whom Richard is close.

Chosen answer: It would hardly have mattered to Rachel who actually suggested writing the list. What did matter was that Ross participated in it and that he gave very unflattering reasons (such as she's spoiled and is just a waitress) about why he should not be with her. As for the others blaming Ross, they apparently feared Rachel's anger and/or felt guilty for being involved.

raywest

For one, some of the reasons, like the chubby ankle thing, was Joey's idea, so that could have been mentioned. And yeah, Ross participated, but his reasons were reworded by Chandler in a way that made them seem insulting. She was spoiled by her father when she was younger, which made her want to move to the city. By not adding the part about Ross and Julie being paleontologists, it looks like he is just plain insulting her lifestyle instead of giving genuine reasons.

Answer: From a website i've just looked at, it says the New York taxi served from 1981 to 1983. http://www.americanhire.net/ebay.htm.

The One With Russ - S2-E10

Question: Is the guy who plays Russ Ross with a fake nose (or make up), because the credits say Snaro plays Russ, but it looks so much like Ross so can some one tell me who plays Russ.

Answer: It is David Schwimmer playing Russ. A couple of behind-the-scenes Friends books say that he chose to put this in the credits as a tribute to a friend.

Dr Muppet

Answer: It means that Phoebe now has control over Monica and Rachel. If they were in jail, Monica and Rachel would now be something akin to Phoebe's slaves.

The One With The Lesbian Wedding - S2-E11

Question: Slightly more wide-ranging a question than just Friends, but it's relevant at the moment. With Massachusetts being in the news for offering same-sex weddings, and apparently being the first state to fully sanction it, was the wedding in this episode (back in the mid '90s) based on any then-current law, or just made up for the purposes of the plot?

Jon Sandys

Chosen answer: Same-sex weddings have been performed for quite some time in the United States. They simply didn't have the sanction of law or the benefits (and costs) that come with it. The ceremonies were purely for the sake of the supporting friends and family of the couple making the commitment.

The One With Ross's Teeth - S6-E8

Monica: What happened to your teeth?
Ross: I whitened them.
Chandler: Really?
Ross: Yeah, what... What do you think?
Monica: Well, uh, I think I shouldn't look directly at them.
Ross: Come on, seriously.
Monica: Ross, they're really, really, really white!
Chandler: Yeah, what was wrong with your old... Human teeth?
Ross: Well, I did leave the gel on a little longer than it said to.
Monica: How much longer?
Ross: Uh, uh... A day.
Monica: Ross, you know that tonight is your date with Hillary?
Ross: I know! That's why I did it! Come on, are they really that bad?
Chandler: No. No, no, no, you'll be fine. Hilary's blind, right?
Monica: She will be after tonight.
