Revealing mistake: Using the loop on Jack's shackle, Will traps Jack to the beam above with his sword. The distinctive patterns on the planks of the cart that Jack stands on differs from the patterns on the planks shown under Jack, while he hangs from the beam. It's not the same cart. Also, while Jack hangs over the cart, the cut out at the corner of the cart is seen over Jack's left shoulder. In the cut out, the linkage which is used for the wire is seen in a couple of shots. Revealing mistake: When the pirates arrive on shore at Port Royal, Ragetti and Pintel are standing in front of the boats. Ragetti has his false wood eye in his hand, as he sharpens the 'iris' with his knife point. As he does so, the eye socket does not look empty in this shot, only covered. (00:30:45)
Revealing mistake: Norrington says, "Gillette, Mr. Sparrow has a dawn appointment with the gallows..." and he's standing at the dock. When he says the name Gillette, there is an unobstructed view. Behind Norrington to HIS right is the bottom part of the mountain's rocky cliffside and we do not see Dauntless moored. At this angle the Dauntless should be seen, though the digital editors neglected to add it. (00:20:30)
Revealing mistake: Almost at the end of the movie, after Will saved Jack Sparrow from being hanged, they run to the cliff and they are caught by the Commodore and his men. In this scene there is a close shot of Johnny Depp's face, where you can see that he is wearing contact lenses. (02:08:35)
Revealing mistake: In the wide shot of the Black Pearl chasing the Interceptor, because of its sailing speed the flag at the stern of Interceptor is upright and blowing hard into the wind. Aboard the Pearl, when Barbossa looks straight ahead at the 'speeding' Interceptor, the flag is down and not blowing at all. (01:22:55)
Revealing mistake: Jack did not rip Elizabeth's corset, as the sound effects suggest: the bustier's hooks were all already undone, and he just pulled the different pieces aside. (00:16:15)

Revealing mistake: When saying, Welcome to the Caribbean, love," Jack, who is beside Elizabeth, starts to walk past her and his right hand nudges her left arm, to move her away. In the next close-up, taken later as a studio pickup, it shows him instead handing the bottle of rum to Elizabeth. In the close-up it's not Depp's hand on the rum bottle - the fingers are short and stocky, whereas Depp's are long and slim. Other differences between the outdoor and studio shots include, Jack's red string tied to his braid, Elizabeth's hair is not as messy and windblown, etc. (The original scene is shown in the deleted scenes.) Revealing mistake: After skewering the three skeletal pirates, Will places the lit bomb inside of Jacoby. In the close-up Will places the bomb through Jacoby's ribs, right under his beard and Jacoby's leather strap and buckle are not seen. Yet in the next shot as Will removes his hand, the strap and buckle are slung across Jacoby's ribs near his beard. It should have been seen in the close-up. (02:00:30)

Revealing mistake: On their way to Isla de Muerta aboard Interceptor, Will and Gibbs discuss Jack and his history. Seen to the left of Gibbs are some of the crew looking out while standing at the ship's rail. It is obvious in some of these shots that the background is edited, the crew have the distinguishable blue screen ring around their bodies. (01:05:50)
Revealing mistake: In the scene where Elizabeth has fallen off the rampart into the water, Jack rescues her and Murtogg and Mullroy help lay her out on the dock. She is not wearing her breast 'enhancements', that she wears throughout the movie. Confirmed by Kiera Knightly on the DVD commentary. (00:16:30)
Revealing mistake: After Will slams the gold bowl down over the pirate's head, this pirate spends time trying to pry the bowl off his head with great difficulty. When Jacoby tosses the bomb, Will dives, then lands and seen in the background is the gold bowl pirate. The bowl actually starts to FALL OFF his head, so the actor reaches up with his left hand to keep it on his head for the shot. However after Elizabeth asks, "Whose side is Jack on?" the pirate is very pleased with himself when he is finally able to pry the bowl off, just before Elizabeth whacks him. (01:59:35)
Revealing mistake: During the first blood ritual and other moments in the film, you can tell that Geoffrey Rush's (Barbossa) eyes are yellowish only because he's wearing colored contact lenses. (01:12:45)
Revealing mistake: After Will throws the small axe at the pirate and it hits him, he picks it up again and runs away. But the axe has no blood on it. The pirates do leave blood on weapons, as shown when Elizabeth stabs Barbossa later.
Revealing mistake: After the pirates open the gate on the Governor's property, they run towards the mansion and in the shot from behind they are casting shadows on the ground to their right. In the next shot from Elizabeth's window, they are casting long shadows directly in front of themselves. (00:31:55)
Revealing mistake: After Jack says, "Ta," he's about to leave, but Will throws the sword into the door, to block the latch. As Will starts to toss his sword, it can be seen that the sword never leaves his hand, but his arm moves downward with the sword in hand. The next shot is a close-up of the swaying sword embedded in the door. Obviously, Bloom does not make that throw towards Depp. (00:23:40)
Revealing mistake: The cannonballs are solid balls and not self-exploding cannonballs (as can be seen from the handling on board of the Pearl). As such they cannot explode when they hit a target. Even if they were self-exploding cannonballs, they would simply explode and not cause yellowish fire flares around them. The type of fire that is seen after impact comes from a liquid, not anything made of powder (particularly noticeable with the cannonball that hits the prison that lets the prisoners escape).
Revealing mistake: When Captain Jack and Will are walking in the upside down boat, from the outside it looks like it's made of fibre glass rather than wood.
Chosen answer: Because they'd have to find it. The gold may "call to them", but it obviously doesn't function as a millimetre perfect homing beacon or they'd never have missed the medallion years earlier when they attacked the ship carrying the young Will. Elizabeth drops it into the sea and they're going to have to spend what could be months trying to locate it - currents could take it well away from the dropping point. They've found the final missing piece; they're potentially just hours away from finally being cured. The last thing they want is to see it thrown into the sea.

Well, if the crew was anxious to get the medallion then why did they act like they weren't interested in it before Elizabeth pretended to drop it?
Reverse psychology.

What do you mean by reverse psychology?
By showing they are not interested in the medallion they are hoping Elizabeth will just drop it on the floor or chuck it to them as it's of no real value. However when she releases a bit of chain and the medallion drops, and the pirates lurch forward revealing that they really want the medallion and as such Elizabeth now has the upper hand in negotiations.

That's not called reverse psychology, which is used to encourage someone to change his or her mind. Doesn't work with a threat. They are feigning indifference to hide the importance of the object.
