Continuity mistake: When Carl gets killed by the falling pane of glass, his hand moves downward and removes some of the blood. In the next shot, more of the blood is missing.
Molly Jensen: Carl, are you all right?
Carl Bruner: It's just my stomach! Do you have anything like Pepto Bismol or something like that?
Sam Wheat: Cyanide.
Trivia: Patrick Swayze refused to do this movie if Whoopi Goldberg was not given the role of Oda Mae Brown.

Answer: They were close friends. I also think Sam is more upset over Carl's deception and greed that ultimately destroyed both of their lives. Carl's death was also pretty brutal, which disturbed Sam when it happened.
