The Butterfly Effect (2004) ending / spoiler
Evan sacrifices his love for Kayleigh by going back to the memory of first meeting her as children, and scaring her away so that Kayleigh never became part of his life, and she grew up happy and successful-though now they never knew each other. In the director's cut on DVD, Evan instead goes back to when he was born, and kills hisself while he is still in his mother's womb.
